Association between frailty, nutrition, sarcopenia, violence and depression in older people in primary health care

Objective: to analyze the association between frailty and social and nutritional aspects, sarcopenia, violence and depression among elderly people treated in Primary Health Care. Method: cross-sectional, comparative study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with elderly people treated in primary health care in the city of Santa Cruz-RN. The instruments used were the Edmonton Frailty Scale, the Geriatric Depression Scale, the Mini Nutritional Assessment instrument, the Elder Abuse Screening Test violence scale and the socioeconomic data questionnaire. The sample was divided into two groups: “Without frailty” and “With frailty”. Results: a significant association was identified between frailty and nutritional status, sarcopenia, risk of violence and depression. Elderly people with frailty had worse scores in these aspects. Conclusion: it is concluded that there is an association between frailty and nutritional status, sarcopenia, risk of violence and depression. The situation of violence did not present a significant difference between the groups.
