Abstract

Human life is composed of several dimensions and needs, including sexual. The experience of sexuality is a human experience which are involved in phenomena of emotion, pleasure, communication, affection and others. To identify the construction of the concept of sexuality in the production of nursing and discuss the applicability of this concept for nursing, we conducted an integrative review of published literature from 1965 until the present day. Our sources: Journal of Nursing (Reben) to meet the time line from 1965 to 1989, and databases on line for production since 1990, namely: MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and BDENF. We note that initially the word about sexuality was closely related to issues of reproduction, passing to the control of adolescent pregnancy and STD prevention, subsequently linked to sexual acts on themselves and now, bringing a more comprehensive and dynamic.
