Her work includes The Phenomenology of Dance (University of Wisconsin, 1966), The Roots of Thinking (Temple, 1990), The Roots of Power: Animate Form and Gendered Bodies (Open Court, 1994), and The Roots of Morality (Penn State, 2008), as well as The Primacy of Movement (John Benjamins, 1999), Illuminating Dance: Philosophical Explorations (Bucknell, 1985), and The Corporeal Turn: An Interdisciplinary Reader (Imprint Academic, 2009). Monica Alarcón estudou filosofia em Valparaíso, Chile. Participou de diversas companhias de dança no Chile e no Brasil. Obteve o Mestrado em 2003 e doutorado em 2008 na Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg/Alemanha. Atualmente, ela leciona no Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg e é uma das fundadoras do grupo de pesquisa “mBody, Künstlerische Forschung in Medien, Somatik, Tanz und Philosophie” [“mBody, pesquisa artística na mídia, somática, dança e filosofia”]. Realiza workshops sobre filosofia da dança na Alemanha, Suíça e América do Sul, organiza projetos interculturais e interdisciplinares e atua como dramaturga em vários projetos de dança. Monica Alarcón studied philosophy in Valparaíso, Chile and participated in several dance companies in Chile and in Brazil. She obtained her Master's Degree in 2003, and then a Doctorate in 2008 from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg/Alemanha. Currently, she teaches at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg and is one of the founders of the research group, “mBody, art research in the media, somatics, dance and philosophy”. She carries out workshops on philosophy and dance in Germany, Switzerland and South American, organizing intercultural and inter-disciplinary projects, as well as acting as dramaturg for various dance projects.
