Abstract

This article focuses on the study of classical elements, particularly in mythological narratives, in contemporary fiction, specifically in the first book of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Using the field of Classical Reception as the theoretical and methodological basis, this article aims to analyze the narrative in the first Percy Jackson book and explore how the author, Rick Riordan, uses mythology and myths to craft the first book in the series. The ideas and concepts employed in the contemporary narrative are key elements for understanding Riordan’s way of thinking. By analyzing the narrative of the first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, several points emerge for analysis: the cosmogonic aspects that explain the origin of the Cosmos, the concept of time proposed in the narrative, and the dynamic between the human and the divine in fiction.
