Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze how the creation and propagation of North American caricatures and stereotypes about black women impacted on the opportunities and job prospects that these women could have throughout their lives, especially with regard to the entertainment field. From contemporary feminist thinkers - such as Grada Kilomba, Patrícia Hill Collins, Angela Davis, bell hooks, Lélia Gonzalez and others - we will be able to perceive, however, how Afro-Americans, from the occupation of spaces in the media and in the North cultural industry -americana, resist and reframe these images, transmitting messages of empowerment, strengthening black support networks and engaging more and more people in a black feminist movement and in the anti-racist struggle.
