Abstract

This article presents comparative elements between two novels: Quincas Borba (1891), by Machado de Assis, and The double (1846), by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The protagonists of the two novels have a doubled personality for pathological and social reasons, above all, motivated by the loneliness that afflicts them, and which will be addressed by the relationship of the themes in which they intertwine in the two novels.
