Abstract

This work intends to approach interdisciplinarly a work O Cortiço, a landmark of Brazilian naturalist literature at the end of the 19th century. A work by Aluísio Azevedo is highlighted by the biological definition, since, in it, the social environment is manifested through natural ways. When proposing an interdisciplinary work between history and literature, we emphasize the importance of critical-reflective reading in the formation of the student. Under this bias, we intend, based on O Cortiço's approach, to work or stretch the model of women marginalized by 19th century society and promote a comparative analysis with the current model of women.
