Abstract

Technological innovations play a fundamental role in transforming several sectors of the world economy, including tourism. The use of technological tools helps communication, accessibility and allows new experiences for tourists. In this sense, this case study explores the use of QR codes as an accessible communication tool in tourist attractions in the city of Curitiba, extracting insights from in-person observation, contemporary literature, and academic research. To this end, we used a qualitative, exploratory methodology through bibliographic analysis related to the themes of tourism, accessibility, and technology. As a result, it was identified that, despite efforts to implement QR codes in tourist attractions with a large flow of people and tourists, this technological tool has not been explored to its full potential for accessibility and dissemination of information about the tourist destination. This occurs mainly due to the existence of access barriers such as: the non-existence, deactivation, or lack of maintenance of codes, in addition to the lack of interactivity of the content and the lack of QR codes facilitated for people with special needs.
