Abstract

In this article, we try to understand what the threshold phenomenon is, how it can be apprehended in the quality of an experience and what is its subjective implications. For this, we use as object of observation the piece Pineal – scenic ritual, a Brazilian artistic work whose structure and fluid elements allow the dissolution of the limits of what we commonly perceive as a typical theatrical experience. From the reflections of Walter Benjamin and the philosopher- sociologist Georg Simmel, we hypothesize that the threshold experiences, and more specifically, the experience proposed by Pineal, in a current daily scenario increasingly marked by speed and automation of processes, allow the subjective opening for sensations that we commonly avoid and hide from our memory, enabling new types of experiences and affections.
