About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Debates is a biannual journal of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Música da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro - PPGM/UNIRIO, and aims to provide a space for the discussion of relevant topics in the field of music in all its aspects, as well as for the dissemination of production derived from academic research in the area. The journal accepts contributions to the thematic dossiers periodically published by the editorial board, as well as free-form articles submitted in a continuous flow. Contributions in Portuguese, Spanish and English are accepted.

Peer Review Process

Submitted papers sent by the Editorial Committee for evaluation by at least two reviewers whose areas of competence and academic background are related to the topic or area of ​​the paper. The evaluations are carried out using the “double blind peer review” method, with both the names of the reviewers and the authors remaining confidential. If there is disagreement between the reviewers, the paper must be sent to a third evaluator.

At the end of the process, the authors receive a communication regarding the opinions issued, guaranteeing the confidentiality of the reviewers.

Papers can be:

1. Accepted in the submitted form;
2. Accepted after the revisions suggested by the reviewers and;
3. Refused.

Specific issues will be examined by the Editorial Board.

Frequency

Debates is published every six months, and its issues are generally released in early June and December.

Open Access Policy

DEBATES is an Open Access journal, which means that all content is available for free, at no cost to the user or their institution. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other legal purpose, without requesting prior permission from the publisher or author, provided they respect the license to use the Creative Commons used by the journal. This definition of open access is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

DEBATES uses the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.
