The contradictory and sometimes chaotic world of the beliefs of our time and the variety of visual testimonies can be found in the dossier presented in this 19th issue of Revista M., on the theme of Imaginaries of death in the media, organized by Isuki Sarahi Castelli Olvera, a research professor at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in Mexico. The dossier consists of four articles in Spanish and one in Portuguese.
After reading the dossier, we can see that contemporaneity offers us new ways of approaching the phenomenon of death. Society reinterprets traditional beliefs, taking into account the experiences produced by new technology or generated by globalization, which gives rise to the exchange of ideas from different religious traditions, such as instrumental transcommunication or the cult of Santa Muerte. Likewise, the dossier shows that researchers into the phenomenon of death have at their disposal a wide variety of testimonies for investigation that have not been widely approached, such as photography, cinema and comics.
This issue also includes three Free Articles, as well as an Essay and a Review.
In this issue, History, Anthropology, Psychology and Semiotics come together once again to approach our main theme - death - from different angles, times and geographical spaces.
