THE REVITALIZATION OF CARIOCA CARNIVAL
RIGHT TO THE CITY, QUILOMBISMO AND OTHER ROADS OF POLITICAL DISPUTE

The theme of this communication is the revitalization of the carioca carnival, which started in the 80´s of the 20th century and was consolidated at the beginning of the 21st century. It made a relation between the political dimension of this movement and the “Right to the City” concept, developed by David Harvey. It´s main objective is to demonstrate how the black intellectual production of authors such as Clóvis Moura, Lélia Gonzales and Abdias Nascimento can, dialoguing with this key concept, enrich the agenda of this movement. In addition, the article intendes to demonstrate the importance of political-cultural elements with a black origin in the context of the carnival party.
