THE PLACE OF SOUND
THE NOTION OF PLACE ATTACHMENT UNDERSTOOD FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF SOUND ECOLOGY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR SOUND EDUCATION AND MUSICAL CREATION

Place attachment is a concept from Humanist Geography and Environmental Psychology based in the comprehension that people create bonds with the places that they live. However, in much of the literature, the approach and discussions have privileged the visual aspects of landscapes. Therefore, considering that every visual landscape is inseparable from a soundscape, this text discusses the sonic components that permeate this bond, taking Sound Ecology as a starting point. The discussion is broadened to understand the role that the notion of place attachment plays or may come to play in Sound Education and musical composition. The conclusion reached is that the aspects of meaning and significance involved in the notion of place attachment contribute to the work of the educator and to composer to produce his pieces with greater audience appeal.
