Abstract

The frequency and different depictions of death in Soviet and Russian World War II cinema have changed over time. Marc Ferro's cinematographic history allows us to identify the tensions that fueled them: different political groups, social memories and historical conjunctures produced monumental and demonumentalizing works (partial or total) in the USSR about the meaning of death. After its end, this tension was maintained by internal or external funding sources. We selected 54 war films produced between 1945 and 2019 (32 Soviet, 22 Russian, including remakes) considered of interest for the way in which they expressed such variations and periodicity.

A frequência e as diversas representações da morte no cinema soviético e russo sobre a Segunda Guerra foram modificadas ao longo do tempo. A cine-história cinematográfica de Marc Ferro permite identificar as tensões que as alimentaram: diferentes grupos políticos, memórias sociais e conjunturas históricas produziram na URSS obras monumentalizadoras e desmonumentalizadoras (parciais ou totais) sobre o significado da morte. Após seu fim, essa tensão foi mantida pelas fontes de financiamento internas ou externas. Foram selecionados 54 filmes bélicos produzidos entre 1945 e 2019 (32 soviéticos, 22 russos, inclusive refilmagens) considerados de interesse, pela maneira de expressão de tais variações e periodicidade.
