Abstract

Objective: to reveal the perceptions of the elderly about the repercussions of COVID-19 on the elderly. Method: exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Twenty elderly residents in Santa Catarina, Brazil participated in the study. Data collection took place through semi-structured questions, through video call on WhatsApp due to the pandemic. For the organization and analysis of data, content analysis was used. Results: two categories emerged: 1) Feelings of the elderly awakened in the face of COVID-19; 2) Experiences of the elderly in the pandemic context. Conclusion: the pandemic situation aroused feelings of sadness, loneliness, anxiety, homesickness and fear in the elderly, in addition to difficulties in adapting to isolation, in the face of physical distancing from family and friends, with interruption of leisure, work and physical activities. However, technologies were allies in maintaining contact with other people, despite the difficulties in handling.

Master in Public Health from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. PhD in Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo. Post-doctorate in Nursing from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), with a CAPES scholarship. Adjunct Professor of the Undergraduate Nursing Course at the Universidade Federal Fronteira Sul (UFFS), working in the coordination and collaboration of research, extension and culture projects. Leader of the Public Policy and Health Management Research Group (PPGS) at UFFS and Member of the Laboratory for Research in Nursing and Health Promotion (LAPEPS) at UFSC. Member of the collegiate and Structuring Teaching Nucleus (NDE) of the Nursing Course. He has been a member of the Research Advisory Committee, of the Extension and Culture Advisory Committee and of the UFFS editor. She has experience as a nurse in the Family Health Strategy. She has been Municipal Health Secretary and has worked as a professor at the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI). He has experience in the area of Primary Health Care, with an emphasis on Health Promotion, working mainly on the following topics: health promotion, vulnerable populations, social determinants of health, repercussions of COVID-19, education and health, participatory action research, music as a health promoter, public policies.

Samuel Spiegelberg Zuge, Community University of Chapecó Region

Nurse. Doctor in Nursing. Professor of the Stricto sensu Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences at the Community University of Chapecó Region - UNOCHAPECÓ. She has professional experience in the field of Nursing with an emphasis on the Surgical Center. She works with quantitative research and Evidence-Based Practice, mainly related to Chronic Conditions of Health and Aging, Health Work and Psychosocial Conditions. Leader of the Evidence-Based Health and Interdisciplinary Research Group (GP - EVIDENCE).

Ivonete Teresinha Schulter Buss Heidemann, Federal University of Santa Catarina

Graduated in Nursing from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1985), Master's in Nursing from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1994) and PhD in Public Health Nursing from the School of Nursing of Ribeirão Preto/University of São Paulo/EERP/USP ( 2006). Post-Doctorate in Public Health Nursing from the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto (UofT), receiving a Post Doctoral Scholarship from CAPES. He is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Professor at the Department of Nursing and at the Postgraduate Program in Nursing (Master's and Doctorate) at UFSC. She is the leader of the Laboratory of Research in Nursing and Health Promotion - LAPEPS. Coordinates the Laboratory of International Relations Health and Nursing - LARISE. Member of the Research Group Salud Familiar/ Universidad Del Magdalena - Unimagdalena -Colombia. Develops a partnership with the Universidad de Girona/Spain. Member of the Scientific Department of Primary Care of the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn)- Santa Catarina (SC). Has experience in Public Health, with emphasis on Health Promotion, working mainly on the following topics: family health, health promotion, social determination of health, social determinants of health, nursing, education and health and care, interdisciplinarity, empowerment , autonomy and Primary Health Care and participatory action research. Research Productivity Scholarship, level 2, from CNPq.

Fernanda Walker, Federal University Fronteira Sul

Graduated in Nursing from Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (2022), working mainly on the following topics: health promotion, comprehensive health care and health vulnerability.

Kelly Cristina de Prado Pilger, Federal University Fronteira Sul

Undergraduate student in Nursing at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS), Campus Chapecó-SC. Member of the Study and Research Group, Public Policy and Health Management (PPGS), at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul. She works as a volunteer in the research project music as a care technology to promote health in the hospital. CNPq Scientific Initiation Scholarship.
