Women living with hiv and pregnancy: understanding their (de)motivations

Objective: to understand the (de)motivations of women living with HIV in the decision of getting pregnant. Method: data analysis was carried out through semi-structured interviews with nine women. The data was collected by the Bardin content analysis technique and organized according to Oliveira. Results: three thematic categories were created: Socioeconomic and sociocultural aspects that (de)motivate pregnancy; Feelings of women living with HIV about pregnancy; HIV and pregnancy. Final considerations: there is a certain relevance of the socioeconomic conditions of these women alongside with information on the matter and in addition to other issues they end up having a certain influence both on the desire for pregnancy or the lack of it. In addition, the fear of transmission was significant among the participants. It is the nurse's role to accommodate the demands of this woman to contribute to her autonomy in the decision for pregnancy.
