Objective: To analyze factors associated with neonatal ankyloglossia in term infants during the first month of life. Method: A retrospective case-control study was conducted using medical records from infants treated at a university hospital. Data on birth characteristics, breastfeeding-related manifestations, and growth measurements were compared between infants with and without ankyloglossia. Results: Infants with ankyloglossia presented a higher frequency of family history of the condition, as well as increased reports of maternal nipple pain and a biting sensation during breastfeeding. Lower birth weights and reduced weight gain in the first month of life were also observed. Conclusion: Ankyloglossia was associated with breastfeeding difficulties and lower weight gain in the first month of life, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and management strategies to support effective and comfortable breastfeeding, and to help prevent early weaning.
