The present study aimed to contribute to the scientific literature regarding the role of nurses in the identification, management, and prevention of adverse events related to transfusion therapy. Method: This was a quantitative, documentary, and retrospective study conducted based on records from the hemotherapy department of Hospital do Andaraí, located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Results:The sample consisted of 254 cases of transfusion-related adverse events, considering variables such as ABO/Rh system, sex, type of blood component, transfusion period, and type of reaction presented. Conclusion: The results showed that non-hemolytic febrile reactions were the most frequent, accounting for 56.69% of cases, followed by allergic reactions, with 17.32%. It was concluded that the early identification and appropriate management of adverse reactions by the nursing team were essential to mitigate and prevent complications, enhance transfusion safety, and strengthen hemovigilance services, contributing to risk reduction.
