The scientific technician and the religious one in the care with the body: confrontation to know rationals?

Objective: to identify and to analyze nursery attitudes influenced by religious/ religion aspects. Method: This is a qualitative and descriptive survey, based on some Social Representation methodological elements developed in public institutions of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Instrument: a half-structural interview script with 13 nurses who work whith Health Education. Analytical categories: religion in the nurse’s lives, relationship between the nurses and its patients (health users); and the situation experienced by the patients in contact with religiosity. Results: the presence of the religion in the nurses’lives was widely-known; the majority of them allows,during the contact with the patient, when they want or can, to point out the public medical health as great the responsible by the lack of time to give a best quality assistance; the majority of them related experienced cases with the religiosity of the patients, and the way of acting when facing the conflicted situations was almost unanimous, don’t admit knowledge confrontation. Conclusion: The emphasis in the conservative practices is observed in the nurse’speeches, what shows that the health professionals need a new profile, in which people’s values, while human beings that think and feel, therefore, endowed of subjectivity, in which the religiosity can also become part of the technological and scientific context.Downloads
