PALLIATIVE CARE FOR PATIENTS AFTER SURGICAL RESECTION FOR HIGH-GRADE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TUMORS

Abstract

Purpose: to analyze palliative care following surgical resection in patients with high-grade central nervous system tumors. Methods: integrative literature review conducted in the MEDLINE database via PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, with no restrictions on language or year of publication. Results: key themes identified include neurosurgical needs, symptom relief, care subdivisions, and multiprofessional involvement. The positive impact of palliative care on patient quality of life and disease progression, from diagnosis to end-of-life, was highlighted. Conclusion: early and well-implemented palliative care reduces unnecessary hospital admissions, provides physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support, and benefits both patients and families. The implementation of public policies and training programs is recommended to improve access to this essential care.

Débora Tavares Resende e Silva, Federal University of Fronteira Sul

Coordenadora e Orientadora do Programa de Pós Graduação em Ciências Biomédicas (desde 2020) e Professora adjunta da Universidade Federal Fronteira Sul (UFFS) desde 2014. Possui pós-doutorado em Imunologia, pela USP/SP (2013), Doutorado em Ciências - Patologia Geral, pela UFTM (2012) e Mestrado em Ciências - Patologia Geral, pela UFTM (2008). Graduada em Fisioterapia pela UNIUBE (2001) e especialista em Fisioterapia Neurológica pela UNIFRAN (2002) e em Saúde Coletiva pela IBRA (2021). Atualmente é Líder do Grupo de Estudo e Pesquisa Interdisciplinar Saúde e Cuidado (GEPISC-UFFS/SC). Foi membro do comitê assessor de pesquisa (2014-2017) do Campus Chapecó/UFFS e representante do Campus Chapecó no CEUA da UFFS (2015-2017). Tem experiência na área de Fisioterapia, assim como na área básica da saúde relacionadas à Processos Patológicos Gerais, Patologia Experimental e Imunologia, atuando principalmente nos temas relacionados à Doenças Crônicas Não Transmissíveis (diabetes, oncologia, HAS e DRC) e Transmissíveis (Covid-19) associados a intervenções como Treinamento Físico e Práticas Integrativas e Complementares, pesquisando principalmente sobre Inflamação, Estresse oxidativo e Autofagia. Também atua como revisora de diversos periódicos nacionais e internacionais e é Coordenadora do PET Saúde/MS.
