Factors associated with cardiovascular risk in people living with HIV/AIDS

Objective: To analyze the association between sociodemographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and clinical factors and cardiovascular risk in people living with HIV/AIDS. Methods: This was an ongoing cross-sectional study conducted at a Specialized Sexually Transmitted Infections/HIV/AIDS Care Service in Maceió, Alagoas. The study included people living with HIV/AIDS, aged 30 years or older, who had been taking antiretroviral therapy for at least six months. Information was obtained through medical records and individual interviews. Cardiovascular risk was calculated using the Framingham Risk Score. Results: Ninety people living with HIV/AIDS participated in the study. There was an association between cardiovascular risk and age variations (p<0.001), individual income (p=0.026), and a history of systemic arterial hypertension (p=0.002), and diabetes mellitus (p=0.003). Conclusion: The existence of factors associated with cardiovascular risk reinforces the importance of strategies that promote healthy habits in this population.
