Gynecological care for the population of transgender men in Primary Health Care

Abstract

Objective: to evaluate gynecological care for the population of transgender men from the perspective of doctors and nurses in primary care. Method: cross-sectional and quantitative study, carried out with 36 health professionals from a municipality in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

An instrument was used containing questions about sociodemographic data, professional training, knowledge about the transgender theme and about gynecological services for transgender men. Results: the sample was 100.00% cisgender, mean age of 31.89±13.43 years. Of these, 52.77% have never seen transgender. As for gynecological consultations for transgender men, 8.33% do not think they are necessary, 74.98% do not feel fully prepared to deal with this situation and 19.42% do not feel fully comfortable to attend to them. Conclusion: there is unpreparedness and deficit in the training of professionals regarding gynecological care transgender men, and it should be in accordance with the demands and rights that this population has.

PhD in Health Sciences from the PPG in Community Health of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, USP. Graduated in Nursing and Master in Nursing from the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG). She works in the following lines of research: primary health care, gerontology, permanence in the elderly, chronic teaching and construction and validation of measurement instruments. She is currently an Administrative Technician in Education (TAE), in the Nursing-Collective Health position, at the School of Nursing at the Federal University of Alfenas.

She is an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG), in the area of ​​Nursing in Women's Health and pedagogical practices at graduation, Higher Education Methodology; Gender, Health and Society and Qualitative Research Methodology in the Masters in Nursing at UNIFAL-MG. She is the deputy director of the School of Nursing at UNIFAL-MG (2019-2021). Professor of Prenatal Nursing I and Women's Health Policies at the National Residency Program in Obstetric Nursing and participates in the Maternal and Child Research Groups at UNIFAL-MG and Pedagogical Teaching Practices in Health EERP-USP. She was Coordinator of the Nursing Course at the Federal University of Alfenas UNIFAL-MG (2015-2017). She has experience in the field of Nursing, with emphasis on: geronto-geriatric nursing, collective health nursing; women's health nursing, nursing education. She was a constituent member of the Nursing Advisory Committee for the 2016 ENADE assessment, in the Sinaes assessment cycle by INEP/MEC. She worked as a technical nurse in charge at the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Hospital in Elói Mendes and an assistant nurse at the Humanitas Hospital in Varginha and coordinating nurse and technical responsible for Primary Health Care at the Municipal Health Department of Elói Mendes.
