Abstract

Objective: To study the history of nursing in Brazil and to establish a historical and social pattern of female participation in the profession. The study also looked at the current situation. Method: Theoretical, reflective study, based on findings in the literature on the historical evolution of nursing. Results: Current professional practice still echoes the circumstances experienced in the past by women's relationship with the progress of health care. In addition to the female role in the structuring of nursing, the intimate connection between the social construction of women and the stereotypes projected on this profession, still imposes greater difficulties in the fight for the recognition of nursing as a science. Final considerations: The way in which the profession was constituted contributed for nursing to be linked to sexualization and machismo. However, it has become a profession with a scientific and technical basis. Demeaning women and reducing them to their bodies is at odds with current female achievements.

Cindy Leite Monteiro, Federal University of Catalao

Bachelor's student in Nursing at the Federal University of Catalão. He contributed as a founding member of the Liga Catalana de Saúde Coletiva (LCSC) and served in the LCSC social media position. Participated in extension projects in the area of palliative care and pre-hospital care. She worked as a volunteer monitor in the disciplines of Human Anatomy, Clinical Topographic Anatomy and Health Promotion.

Karla Oliveira de Castro, Federal University of Catalao

Nursing Technician by SENAC Minas. Student at the Federal University of Catalão, in the eighth period of Nursing - Bachelor's Degree. She was part of the board of the Catalana League of Palliative Care - LCCP as secretary. Cooperated as a founding member in the activities of the Liga Catalana de Saúde Coletiva - LCSC, and served as vice-president of the LCSC. Participated in extensions related to teaching laypeople about pre-hospital care. Acted as a volunteer monitor in the disciplines Topographic Clinical Anatomy, Human Anatomy, Epidemiology, Health Promotion and Public Health II. Currently, he is part of PET-Saúde as a fellow in the Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases group.

Thaiane Furtado Macedo, Federal University of Catalao

Technique in Mining Integrated to high school by Instituto Federal Goiano - Campus Advanced Catalão. She is a student of the full-time/bachelor's nursing course at the Federal University of Catalão. Worked on the Pet Health/Interprofessional project 2019/2021. Works on extension projects on pre-hospital care. Member of the board of the Catalan League of Palliative Care in the position of secretary. He cooperated as a founding member of the Liga Catalana de Saúde Coletiva, in which he sits on the board as president. She was a volunteer monitor in the subjects of Health Promotion and Human Anatomy. He is a Scientific Initiation Scholar in research on the "Evaluation of the operationalization of the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 through behavioral aspects in the use of Personal Protective Equipment - focus on health professionals".

Ana Carolina Scarpel Moncaio, Federal University of Catalao

Professor at the Federal University of Catalan. PhD in Sciences from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing (EERP USP) from the Public Health Nursing program. From September/2013 to January/2014, he completed his sandwich doctorate in Coimbra (Portugal) at the Nursing School of Coimbra. Member of the Group for Epidemiological-Operational Studies on Tuberculosis (GEOTB) of the Brazilian Tuberculosis Research Network (REDE-TB). Master in Science from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing (EERP USP) from the Fundamental Nursing Program. Nurse graduated from the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (Bachelor). Qualification in Full Degree from the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (Licenciatura). Specialist in Occupational Nursing from the Faculty of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP) working on Occupational Tuberculosis. She has experience in Nursing Assistance, Teaching and monitoring Internships, with an emphasis on Nursing in Infectious Diseases and Public Health.

Luípa Michele Silva, Federal University of Catalao

Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Catalão - Goiás. Postdoctoral degree in Nursing in the area of Health for the Elderly at the School of Nursing of Ribeirão Preto/USP (2016/2018). Sandwich Doctorate at the Competenze Anziani Center at the Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI) (2014/2015). PhD (2015) by the Graduate Program in Nursing at UFPB, concept 5, in the area of concentration Care in Nursing and Health. Master (2011) by the Graduate Program in Nursing at UFPB, concept 5. Specialization in activating processes of change in the higher education of health professionals by EAD-ENSP/FIOCRUZ (2011). Degree in Nursing (2009) and Pharmacy (2010) from the Federal University of Paraíba. CNPQ Scientific Initiation Scholarship holder from 2007 to 2009, Master's Scholarship holder, CNPq, from 2009 to 2011, Capes Doctoral Scholarship, 2013-2015 and Capes Postdoctoral Scholarship, 2016-2018.
