Effect of an educational workshop on the prevention of obstetric violence on the knowledge of community health agents

Objective: To analyze the effects of an educational workshop on the prevention of obstetric violence on the knowledge of community health agents.
Method: Quasi-experimental study carried out in Acarape in the Baturité Massif, Ceará, Brazil, in December 2024. The study participants were community health agents linked to the Basic Health Units of the municipality of Acarape. Data collection took place in three stages: application of a pre-test; implementation of the educational intervention; application of the post-test. The educational intervention consisted of a theoretical-practical class, addressing topics such as definition and examples of obstetric violence, prevention, associated risks, the role of the community health agent in this scenario and the importance of humanized childbirth. The data were analyzed in the Jamovi statistical software using measures of central tendency.
Results: There was an increase in the agents' knowledge about obstetric violence after the intervention, evidenced by comparisons between the pre-test and post-test. The greatest improvements were observed in the identification of specific practices that constitute obstetric violence, such as neglect in care and verbal abuse. In addition, the agents reported a greater perception of the importance of humanized childbirth, and the feeling of safety when dealing with cases of obstetric violence also improved. These advances demonstrate the positive impact of educational workshops on the quality of care provided by professionals, enhancing their role as agents of transformation in communities.
Conclusion: The educational workshop proved to be an effective strategy for training community health agents, contributing to the identification and approach of cases of obstetric violence.
