Self-care of people using non-invasive ventilatory support in a Home Oxygen Therapy Program

Objective: to analyze the self-care of people using non-invasive ventilatory support, in the continuous positive pressure modality, registered in a Home Oxygen Therapy Program in a city in the South of Minas Gerais. Method: descriptive, qualitative study, based on Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory. Data collection took place between March and April 2025, through a semi-structured script that included sociodemographic and clinical characterization and guiding questions for semi-structured interviews, analyzed using Bardin's Content Analysis technique. Results: 12 people participated. The analysis revealed three categories: challenges in self-care; institutional and social support in the self-care process; and limitations faced in self-care. Final considerations: self-care is influenced by social, clinical and structural factors that hinder therapeutic adherence. Orem's Theory contributed to understanding the demands of the participants, highlighting the importance of health education, strengthening autonomy and building individualized care plans.
