Abstract

Objective: to screen depressive symptoms in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: cross-sectional study, carried out in a hospital in Maceió, Alagoas with patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Sociodemographic questionnaires were used in addition to the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. All variables with p < 0.05 remained in the final model. Data analysis was performed using RStudio software, considering a significance level of 5%. Results: 156 people were evaluated. Moderate to severe depression was associated with the coexistence of higher education (OR: 5.62; p < 0.01), low income (OR: 3.54; p = 0.02), recent diagnosis of CKD (OR: 2.57; p = 0.04), previous diagnosis of depression (OR: 5.46; p < 0.01) and family history of depression (OR: 2.44; p = 0.04). Conclusion: the findings indicate a high prevalence of moderate to severe depression, associated with socioeconomic and clinical factors.
