Health promotion in Brazil
trajectory and conceptual renewal of an ongoing concept

Objective: to analyze the current concept of health promotion in Brazil. Methodology: this is a concept analysis following an eight-step methodological process. To support the analysis, an Integrative Literature Review was conducted, focusing on the use of the concept of health promotion in Brazil. Results: a total of 55 publications were analyzed, identifying two main uses of the concept, which coexist and may complement each other, although they usually appear separately. Nine defining attributes, 15 antecedents, and 13 consequences were identified, allowing for practical application through model, borderline, and contrary cases, highlighting strategies for resource mobilization, institutional strengthening, and improvement of quality of life. Conclusion: the study defined the essential components of health promotion, distinguished it from other approaches, and reinforced strategies to consolidate its principles within the Unified Health System.
