Impact of social isolation on older adults with osteoarthritis / Impacto do isolamento social em pessoas idosas com osteoartrite

Objetivo: compreender a experiência de pessoas idosas com osteoartrite avançada em joelho ou quadril durante o isolamento social da COVID-19, considerando seus efeitos funcionais e emocionais. Método: estudo exploratório qualitativo realizado com 24 pessoas idosas atendidas em ambulatório de reumatologia. As entrevistas semiestruturadas foram analisadas pelo software Iramuteq utilizando a Classificação Hierárquica Descendente. Resultados: emergiram quatro classes semânticas: (1) Medo, ruptura da rotina e autogestão do cuidado; (2) Inatividade como gatilho clínico e emocional; (3) Descontinuidade de tratamentos e medicalização da dor; e (4) Dificuldades de mobilidade, rigidez e quedas. O isolamento reforçou a vulnerabilidade física e emocional, gerando perda de autonomia e restrições no acesso aos serviços de saúde e à rede de apoio. Considerações finais: a intensificação da dor e do comprometimento funcional durante o isolamento evidencia a necessidade de estratégias multiprofissionais que considerem os impactos físicos e psicológicos da osteoartrite em contextos de restrição social.
