Adherence to nr-32 and the use of jewelry among healthcare professionals in a university hospital / Adesão à NR-32 e uso de adornos entre profissionais de saúde em hospital universitário.

Abstract: Objective: to evaluate adherence to Regulatory Standard 32 and perceptions regarding the prohibition of wearing adornments among medical and nursing professionals, according to sex and professional category, in a university hospital. Methods: a descriptive-analytical study conducted between 2023 and 2024 with 118 professionals working in a university hospital in Northeastern Brazil. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire including sociodemographic and work-related information, use of adornments, and knowledge of the standard. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed, adopting a 5% significance level. Results: most participants reported knowing Regulatory Standard 32 and rarely or never wearing adornments at work. An association was found between noncompliance and the medical category. Differences by sex were observed regarding use, perception, and knowledge, more frequent among nursing professionals. Conclusion: high adherence to the standard was observed, with relevant differences; nursing professionals showed greater knowledge and adherence to biosafety practices.
