Objective: To analyze the perceptions of workers at a psychiatric hospital regarding the factors associated with and coping strategies for occupational stress. Method: A qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study was conducted in a public psychiatric hospital in Piauí, Brazil, with 33 workers from different professional categories. Data collection was carried out using the Mentimeter® platform, after an educational activity on Burnout Syndrome. The data were subjected to Bardin's Content Analysis. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: factors associated with occupational stress and coping strategies for occupational stress. Weaknesses in communication and interpersonal relationships, difficulties related to management, work overload, lack of professional recognition, and care challenges were highlighted. As coping strategies, participants pointed to self-care practices, psychological support, and strengthening institutional support. Conclusion: Occupational stress results from interdependent organizational, relational, and care factors, highlighting the need for integrated strategies to promote mental health at work.
