Abstract

Abstract Objective: To identify the feelings of women before and after hysterectomy and emotional interference to their sexual health. Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive, developed at the Fábrica de Cuidados located in the School of nursing and the University Hospital Gafrée e Guinle located in Rio de Janeiro. 30 interviews were conducted with women who underwent hysterectomy. For data collection a questionnaire was used to map the socio-economic and cultural questionnaire Hysterectomy and reliving the Fantasy of Castration "of Teitelroit plus an open question which was about the feelings related to hysterectomy. Results: After analysis was built a category: Hysterectomy: interference in sexual health and feelings of women. Most women describe the hysterectomy as crippling, and have feelings like fear and apprehension before surgery, but after, they see the procedure as a positive sexual health. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that it should act as a facilitator for clients in emergency gynecology, emphasizing the need for self-expression to their sexual potential.
