ABSTRACT: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents a public health problem, and in Brazil are responsible for the primary cause of death. Methods of early diagnosis in the electrocardiogram (ECG) should be properly interpreted by the nurse for a better diagnosis of pacients. Objectives:To assess how the electrocardiographic interpretation is Nurse and the factors involved in the review process. Method: A qualitative study of descriptive in a hospital in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of 12 nurses from various hospital sectors. The results: There is that nurses have knowledge of the electrocardiogram normal, but need more knowledge on the detection of abnormalities in order to collaborate with other health professionals with the diagnosis and early treatment of cardiac abnormalities. Conclusion: As suggestions were pointed out the need for greater inclusion of this topic in nursing education and the establishment of permanent educational activities in the wards, enabling professionals working in care faster recognition of changes.
