Guidelines for Authors

The Research Journal: Care is Fundamental On Line [RPCFO] was transferred to the non-profit electronic format (SEER) in May 2009. It is currently edited by the Graduate Program in Nursing (PPGENF) - Master's and PhD in Nursing, of the School of Nursing, Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), with periodicity in CONTINUOUS FLOW, consisting of one volume per year. It is classified in the QUALIS/CAPES as B2.

When submitting a manuscript, the SUBMISSION METADATA should include all the AUTHORS who may be mentioned as << AUTHOR >> in the body of the text. The submission of the manuscript, attachments and the completion of all data are the sole responsibility of the author submitting the manuscript and not of the Editor.

The inclusion of ORCID records in the Submission Metadata is MANDATORY, as well as the RESUMO in PORTUGUESE and REFERENCES. Otherwise, the submission MAY BE SUMMARILY FILED.

The Research Organization Registry (ROR) is a global, community-led registry of open persistent identifiers for research organizations. The ROR makes it easy for anyone or any system to disambiguate institution names and connect research organizations to researchers and research outputs. All manuscripts are previously appreciated by the Editor with regard to the adequacy to the RPCFO Format and Structure Standards and, if considered adequate, will be forwarded to Ad hoc consultants of recognized competence in the subject matter. SPACE: Double throughout the manuscript, including in the abstract and references. Single for title, descriptors, direct quotation longer than three lines, and in transliteration of testimony.

PLAGIARISM ANALYSIS

Starting in January 2021, a new step will be inserted in the manuscript review process. A software will evaluate the plagiarism issue, with the following results:

- Up to 25% plagiarism - a letter will be sent to the authors, containing guidelines and recommendations;

- More than 50% of plagiarism - the authors and the institution will be captured, and the ethical issues and duties regarding scientific work will be fulfilled.

TITLE

Must appear in all three languages of the Abstract;

It is limited to 16 words;

UPPERCASE, BOLD, SINGLE SPACED, AND CENTERED.

RESUMO

Include, in a structured manner, information according to the category of the article. It includes: objective, method, results, and conclusion.

Text limited to 150 words, in the language in which the article was written;

No abbreviations or acronyms.

DESCRIPTORS

Immediately below the abstract and in the same language as the abstract, with the word "descriptors" in bold: UPPERCASE AND IN BOLD;

Insert 3 to 5 descriptors, separated by semicolons, and the first letter of each descriptor in capital letters. For example: Nursing care; Intensive care; Pediatric nursing.

The descriptors should identify or reflect the main topics of the article;

Preferably, the words used in the descriptors should not appear in the title;

To determine them, consult the list of Descriptors in Health Sciences (DECS) → http://decs.bvs.br; Remember to click on: "Exact Descriptor".

Descriptors from Medical Subjetc Headings (MeSH) → www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html may also be used.

Single-spacing between lines, according to the example:

DESCRIPTORS: Education; Nursing; Nursing Care; Learning; Nursing; Teaching.

INTRODUCTION

It should contain justification, theoretical background, and objectives. The justification must clearly define the problem, highlighting its importance, gaps in knowledge, and the theoretical framework used when applicable.

METHOD

It must contain the method used, period and place where the research was developed, population/sample, inclusion and exclusion criteria, sources and instruments of data collection, method of data analysis.

For research involving human beings, the authors must explain the observation of ethical principles, in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin of the manuscript, and inform the number of the approval by the Research Ethics Committee, in accordance with the current legislation.

It is mandatory to insert the Ethics Committee Opinion in the "supplementary documentation" section at the time of article submission.

RESULTS

Information limited to the results of the research. The text should complement information contained in illustrations presented, not repeat the data.

Always insert the value of "n" and the percentage in parentheses. Remember that n below 10 should be written in full and equal to or above 10 should be numeric.

Example: "Of the 100 participants, 15 (15%) reported improvement and six (6%) reported worsening.

DISCUSSION

Presentation of relevant aspects and interpretation of the data obtained. Relation and discussion with research results, implications and limitations of the study. Data included in the results should not be restated.

CONCLUSIONS OR FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

Highlight the most important findings, comment on limitations and implications for future research;

Based on the objectives, results, and discussion, avoiding statements unrelated to the study and/or new interpretations. Include the contributions of the study performed.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

In this section the acknowledgements should be addressed to the funding agencies or organizations that somehow contributed to the accomplishment of the study.

Do not thank people or authors who collaborated in the research.

REFERENCES

References must be numbered consecutively in the order in which they first appear in the text, and presented in accordance with Vancouver style.

Maximum limit of 30 references for original articles;

Exclusively for Review Articles, there is no limit on the number of references;

It is suggested that current and strictly relevant references be included, avoiding an excessive number of references in a single citation (80% of the articles should be published no older than 5 years);

Annexes, when indispensable, should be cited in the text and inserted after the references.

GUIDELINES FOR ILLUSTRATIONS

Illustrations are tables, charts and figures (graphs, diagrams, photos).

A maximum of 5 illustrations are permitted, which should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Exclusively, for Review Articles, the limit for the number of illustrations is 8.

They should be indicated in the text with the first letter capitalized.

Example: Table 2, Table 1, Figure 3.

The source of the information in the illustration, when resulting from other research, must be cited and included in the references.

Tables and charts

Maximum size 22 cm high by 16.5 cm wide

Use internal lines only below and above the heading and at the bottom of the table;

They must not present neither vertical nor horizontal lines inside the table;

They should be inserted as close as possible to the indication, and drawn with an appropriate tool from Microsoft Word for Windows 98® or compatible;

Use font Trebuchet MS, size 11, single line spacing;

The title of tables and charts should be placed immediately above them, single spaced, with boldface. Following the examples below:

Figures (Graphs, Diagrams, Pictures)

Maximum size of 22 cm high by 16.5 cm wide.

They should be presented in the text, as close as possible to the indication, and attached in a separate file, with quality required for publication. Preferably in JPEG, GIF or TIFF format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

The title of the figure must be placed above it, separated by a period from the name of the city, state, country and year. The latter separated by commas and without periods.

Color photos and pictures of people may be published (except those of public access, already published).

GUIDELINES FOR CITATIONS AND TESTIMONIALS

1) Indirect citation or paraphrase

Inform the reference number immediately at the end of the text, without space, without parentheses, and after the graphic sign (punctuation).

Example: The concept of comfort is directly related to well-being.¹

2) Sequential/intercalated citation

Separate the numbers of each reference by a dash when it is sequential.

Example: 8-10 - the information states that references 8, 9 and 10 are included.

Separate the numbers of each reference by a comma, when it is interleaved.

Example: 8,10 - the information refers that references 8 and 10 are included.

3) Direct citation with up to three lines

Inserted in the body of the paragraph and between quotation marks. The number and page corresponding to the literal quotation must be in superscript, without parentheses and separated by a colon.

Example: 8:13 - the information refers to reference 8, page 13.

4) Direct citation with more than three lines

It must be in a new paragraph, justified to the right and indented 4 cm from the left margin, typed in Trebuchet MS 10 font, single space between lines, without quotation marks.

The number and page corresponding to the direct quotation must be superscripted, without parentheses and separated by a colon.

Example: 8:345-6 the number 8 refers to the reference and 345-9 to the pages.

5) Testimony

The transliteration of a testimonial should appear in a new paragraph, typed in Trebuchet font 11, italic, with single line spacing, without quotation marks.

Author comments should be in brackets and not italicized.

The identification of the subject should be coded (explain the coding in the methodology), in brackets, without italics and separated from the statement by a period.

Example: [Communication] is you expressing something, saying something to someone is the act of communicating [...]. (Relative 2)

IDENTIFICATION PAGE

Title

Should be concise and reflect the main idea of the manuscript, with a maximum of 16 words and excluding the geographical location of the research.

UPPERCASE, BOLD, SINGLE SPACED, CENTERED

IMPORTANT: If the origin of the manuscript is a thesis, dissertation, monograph or final term paper, an asterisk (*) must be placed at the end of the title and the respective information in a footnote.

Authorship (Trebuchet MS 11 font)

Limited to six authors;

Full names, presented immediately below the title, aligned to the right, separated by commas, numbered with sequential Arabic numerals and superscripted.

Simple line spacing;

The information about the authors (education, highest academic degree, position held, name of the institution, city, state and country), should be presented immediately below their names, justified, with Trebuchet MS 10 font and 1.15 line spacing.

City, state and country, separated by hyphen.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is the one to whom the RPCFO will send communications regarding the manuscript review process. The corresponding author is responsible for representing the other authors regarding changes in the text, manuscript flow and formal acceptance of the final version of the manuscript for publication.

Inform name, affiliated institution, address (street, number, zip code, city, state, country), telephone and e-mail (font 10).

The name of the corresponding author will appear as such when the article is published. It is your responsibility to inform RPCFO of any change of address and/or e-mail problems in order to avoid delays in the review process.

COPY OF THE RESEARCH ETHICS COMMITTEE OPINION

For research articles involving human beings, please send a copy of the approval report, with the respective protocol number, issued by a Research Ethics Committee and in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin of the manuscript. The copy must be attached as a supplementary document.

This document includes the statement of responsibility, copyright transfer, participation in the manuscript, and conflict of interest.

It should be completed and signed by all authors and attached as a supplementary document.

The manuscript that DOES NOT comply with these Guidelines, due to INCOMPLETENESS or INADEQUACY, WILL BE SUMMARILY RETURNED even before being submitted for evaluation BY THE CONSULTANT. Therefore, we request your attention to the rules for manuscript submission. If the adjustments request is not fulfilled within 3 (three) days, the manuscript will be FILED, and if there is still interest in publishing it, it should be submitted again, where a new peer review process will be initiated.

The evaluation process uses the Doubleblind peer review system, preserving the identity of the authors and consultants, using the RPCFO form. The deadline for returning the reviews is a maximum of 28 days, when the peer review is accepted by the reviewers. Otherwise, it will be sent to other consultants. If not accepted, two members of the Editorial Board will evaluate the article.

The evaluators' opinions will be made available online to the author responsible for the submission, who will have 10 (ten) days to respond to the requests. Otherwise, the manuscript will be FILED after a communication is sent to all authors, as we understand that there was no interest in fulfilling the request for adjustments according to the evaluations. However, if there is still interest in publishing it, the article should be submitted again, where a new peer review process will be initiated.
