Sex and gender-related issues

The Revista de Pesquisa Cuidado é Fundamental Online (RPCFO) adopts and promotes the use of the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) Guidelines to guide its authors in the correct inclusion of sex and gender considerations in their research. It is essential that authors, when submitting manuscripts to RPCFO, correctly use the terms sex (understood as a biological attribute) and gender (a concept shaped by social and cultural circumstances), avoiding confusion between the two.

Authors are expected to explicitly report the sex and/or gender of study participants, when relevant, and explain how sex and gender influence the obtained results. Furthermore, if the analyses did not include these variables, authors should justify their absence. In the abstract, authors are encouraged to mention, where applicable, how sex and/or gender affects the results, and in the body of the manuscript, they should provide detailed information on the methodology applied to analyze sex and gender, as recommended by SAGER.

RPCFO aims to promote greater transparency and equity in how these variables are addressed, respecting their nuances, and contributing to the production of more inclusive and diverse knowledge in the field of health.
