Stress, quality of working life and coping with intensive nursing in the pandemic context: integrative review

Abstract

Objective: to analyze, in the light of the literature, the quality of working life of Intensive Care Unit nurses, with emphasis on stressors and coping strategies during COVID-19. Method: integrative review carried out in October 2022, in LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO databases. Results: A total of 820 studies were located, and when inclusion and exclusion and reading criteria were applied, a sample of seven studies was obtained, from which the following categories emerged: stressors arising from the work environment; impacts of stress factors on the quality of working life; and coping strategies to overcome stressful situations. Final considerations: it is necessary to invest in the support of intensive care nursing, implementing structural and organizational measures in the work environment that consider their biopsychosocial state, in order to safeguard their resilience both in the context of COVID-19 and in future pandemics.

Specialist in Cardiology and Hemodynamics by the Professional Training and Improvement Center (CEFAPP/Manaus). Specialist in Intensive Care in the Multiprofessional Residency modality at Nilton Lins University (UNINILTONLINS) in partnership with the Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado (FMT-HVD). Master in Nursing from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) in full association with the State University of Pará (UEPA), in the line of research in Nursing Education and Technology for Health Care for Individuals and Social Groups. PhD candidate in
Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the State University of Amazonas (UEA) in partnership with the Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado (FMT-HVD). Member of the research group of the Laboratory of Technologies in Health and Education and Systematization of Nursing Care at the State University of Amazonas (LABTECUEA). Maria Emília Barrios Rodrigues, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

Graduated in Mathematics from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (2011), master's degree in Education from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (2013) and doctoral candidate in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2021). He has experience in the field of Computer Science, with emphasis on Databases. I work in the areas of Mathematics Education, with teaching experience in Elementary, High and Higher Education; Curriculum, acting in the writing and revision of Telecurso skills and competences; and, Evaluation and Monitoring of social and
educational research.
