Abstract

The birth plan is a document, drawn up during pregnancy, recognized and recommended by the Ministry of Health, in which the woman expresses her needs and expectations regarding labor and delivery. The objective of the work is to analyze the management and knowledge of insertion of the birth plan by nurses in a reference hospital. The study is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach, carried out with nurses at the Ana Bezerra University Hospital, in November 2023, in the city of Santa Cruz/RN. The interviews were carried out at HUAB and the interviews were transcribed, which consisted of listening to the audios. The collected data were transcribed and evaluated according to the content analysis method according to Bardin. As results, three categories were identified, what the birth plan means for nurses; the execution of the birth plan, and the last the need to add knowledge about the birth plan. It is concluded that the study participants have theoretical and practical knowledge about the birth plan, have great possibilities of executing the birth plan and have few difficulties. Finally, the constant qualification and improvement of all professionals in the sectors is essential.
