The nurse's role in the treatment of chronic wounds requires practical and scientific knowledge. Clinical simulation emerges as an effective strategy, providing teaching in a safe environment. Objective: to evaluate the performance of Nursing students in the assessment and prescription of topical treatment for chronic wounds through clinical simulation. Methodology: quantitative and qualitative with academics from the 6th to the 9th semester of a university. Three wound scenarios were created, with checklists and treatment materials. The debriefing included a focus group on the undergraduates' knowledge. Results: the quantitative results indicated insufficient knowledge, while the qualitative analysis revealed the theme "Construction of Competence in Wounds," permeated by insecurity and the development of clinical reasoning, evidencing formative gaps and transversal insecurity. Conclusion: the participants presented limitations in the evaluation and indication of treatment. Simulation proved to be positive in the construction of knowledge and development of necessary competencies in wound care.
