Abstract

Objective: to identify the cognitive stimulation practices developed by nursing staff with elderly people. Methodology: this integrative literature review was developed in six stages without a time frame. The searches were conducted in the following databases/libraries: BVS, MEDLINE, WOS, EMBASE, and SCOPUS, using the search terms “Aged” OR “Cognition” AND “Educational Technology” AND “Nurses” OR “Geriatric Nursing”. Results: twenty-two articles were selected to compose the final sample after applying the eligibility criteria. The cognitive stimulation practices were systematically organized and classified into major intervention classes, linked to the main cognitive domains stimulated. Long-term care facilities predominated as the research locations, while hospitals were less frequent. Conclusion: stimulation practices are varied and essential in geriatric nursing, easy to implement, and with results that contribute to maintaining the autonomy and functionality of older adults.
