Objective: to analyze the structural and psychological empowerment of nurses before and after a knowledge intervention related to glycemic management in patients. Method: a quasi-experimental, pre- and post-intervention, non-randomized study. Twenty-six nurses from an emergency department of a university hospital participated. The study was conducted in three stages: pre-intervention, intervention, and post-intervention, using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Psychological Empowerment Instrument, the Work Efficacy Conditions Questionnaire II, and a glycemic management knowledge test. Results: the majority (80.8%) had not received prior training in glycemic management, despite knowing the protocols. After the educational intervention, all indicators improved. Technical knowledge increased, and structural (p=0.047) and psychological (p=0.034) empowerment showed a significant increase, demonstrating greater confidence and autonomy among professionals in clinical practice. Conclusion: the findings reinforce that training in glycemic management is essential not only for technical updating but also for strengthening professional autonomy and confidence in urgent and emergency care.
