THE BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION OF NURSING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL IN BRAZIL

Abstract

The object of this research is the importance of the Brazilian Association of Nursing - ABEN in the creation of Council of Nursing in Brazil. The old Brazilian Association of Nurses Graduates - ABED, today is Brazilian Association of Nursing - ABEn was the institution which through its members and directors fought to promote and improve the profession especially in the management of nurse Zaira Cintra Vidal from 1943 until 1947, who appointed a group to prepare a draft in order to create the Council of Nursing to regulate the profession of nursing in Brasil. Many actions took effect until July 12, 1973 was sanctioned Law Nº 5905 which created the Council Federal Nursing in Brazil. This study aims to: describe the strategies adopted by the Brazilian Association of Nursing - ABEn for the creation of Council of Nursing, and highlight the value of professional nursing from the creation of the Federal Council of Nursing - COFEN and its Regionals - Corens. This is a study about social history, using the technique of search and document analysis as the main source of research documents. The access to documents have been through the archives of the Federal Council of Nursing and the Brazilian Association of Nursing. The bibliographies of secondary sources were referring to the History of Nursing, the history of Brazil and legislation with approximation to the object of study. The documents were analyzed and got the following results: The struggle waged by nurses of nursing leaders in Brazil, at the time, through ABEN gave fruit that now collect, because we have a supervisory and regulatory body of professional practice and the COFEN and Corens, we have a nursing who may require that you know your rights and obligations must comply. This study showed us the importance of the class of entities for the development of the profession.
