Safety culture in primary health care / Cultura de segurança na atenção primária à saúde

Objective: to analyze the safety culture among Primary Health Care professionals. Method: exploratory study carried out with primary care professionals in a capital city in the Brazilian Central-West region. Data were collected between January and July 2023 using the Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture, which were subsequently subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results: 355 professionals participated. The best evaluated safety culture dimension was ‘Following patient care’, followed by ‘Teamwork’. ‘Open communication’ and ‘Communication about errors’ were more positive among administrative professionals when compared to care professionals. The worst rated dimension was ‘Pressure and pace of work’. The patient safety culture among primary care professionals was considered weak. Conclusion: the need for continuing health education strategies to strengthen the safety culture and consequently reduce the risk of errors in care is elucidated.
