Abstract

OBJETIVES: to describe the assistance received during the process of pregnancy, delivery and birth from the mother perspective; to analyzing the perception of women about the assistance received in normal delivery, from their life story. METHOD: Qualitative study. The Life Story method was used. Ten catholic women were interviewed of a church of the city of Rio de Janeiro, who had experience of normal deliveries in the health public network. RESULT: The thematic analysis resulted in three categories: pregnancy, parturition and puerperium. CONCLUSION: Conclusions pointed to the professional practices in the management of delivery are based by the biomedical model, yet distant recommended by the Humanization Program of the Office of Health.
