Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this study is to show the responsibilities of the nurse in the initial treatment of the bedridden patient in hospital, and with pressure ulcer. It is very important that the nurses understand all kind of curatives in order to know how to apply topical medications on each stage of the ulcer, they should be able to evaluate the whole patient condition, because some times the ulcer treatment does not evolve for the reason that the professional involved in the treatment does not have adequate knowledge of the medications and the ulcer stages. All professionals should be conscious that the decubitus ulcers, although very common on aged bedridden patients, are among the ones that could be easily avoided. They are four the factors that contribute to the development of the ulcer: local pressure, tension forces in direct bonding, friction and humidity. This kind of ulcers evolves on body areas (more common on regions of osseous prominence) exposed to longstanding pressure. For this reason the ulcer evaluation must be done and registered in the manual by a nurse specialist, in other words, by a professional experienced in curatives, and that knows how to take advantage of the techniques found in literature and also new other therapies issued during the process of treatment. This way, much trouble and pain to the older age could be prevented. Object: Treatment of a bedridden patient with pressure ulcer in the infirmary of a public hospital.
